The Shaolin Butterfly Min Zin, Meditation and Yoga System

**ANNOUNCING THE SHAOLIN BUTTERFLY MIN ZIN • MEDITATION • YOGA SYSTEM**

This system has been in development since before the beginning of my formal training in the arts.

I am what is known as a “natural meditator”—my teachers’ words, not mine—and in fact, it is reflected in my lineage name, **Dao Chan I**.

From my earliest memories as a child, I have meditated, and even as a young teen learned to have “out-of-body” experiences, just like you read about—“I” on top of the room above, looking down at “me,” my body.

Being self-taught, it was both quite interesting and strange at the same time, and I did not push it farther, figuring actual instruction in “consciousness engineering” was best done under experienced guidance.

Soon enough, I had that.

When I met my T’ai Chi and Martial Arts teacher, seemingly “by accident,” I could see the quality and depth of all of his programs and began intense training and discipline daily to learn and master everything, step by step.

In his T’ai Chi Program Curriculum—which is now the backbone of the **Shaolin Butterfly T’ai Chi System**—are contained many meditation methods, both stationary and moving, seated and standing, along with all of the concepts and principles needed to practice them well.

These are known by the Chinese general terms **Qigong** and **Nei Gong**—all manner of methods, including the principles and concepts of “meditation” and “contemplation,” as he generally referred to the two basic methods of meditating, of which there are limitless variations and combinations.

Being young and very energetic, in addition to the T’ai Chi and all the training I was undergoing with my teacher, I wanted to further my path of healing and learning. Very shortly after beginning my T’ai Chi training, I researched meditation methods and found the TM method of the famous teacher **Maharishi Mahesh Yogi**, Maharishi (his title) for short.

Maharishi was, in fact, the top and most talented student of the very highest spiritual authority in India at the time, but being not of the Brahmin caste, did not succeed him. Instead, his teacher gave him the mission of bringing his arts of meditation and the philosophies underlying them to the whole world.

And he did it spectacularly.

So I learned his simple but powerful method and practice it daily to this day.

I also became a distance student of what is called the **Self-Realization Fellowship** at this time, the organization in the West dedicated to preserving and passing on the teachings and legacy of the great spiritual teacher **Paramahansa Yogananda**.

This then branched out even further as my studies in Shaolin began. More Yoga methods of all kinds—**Hatha Yoga** (the postures and asanas), **Mantra, Pranayama** (breathing methods), **Mudra** (sacred gestures and postures), and the teachings as espoused by Sage Patanjali centuries ago—the **“Eight Limbs of Yoga.”**

Yoga actually means **“Union,”** as in union of Spirit-Mind-Body—or unity with God, if you like that language.

This then led to studies and taking Refuge and receiving sacred teachings and empowerments/initiations/Shaktipat from my Buddhist teacher and other great spiritual leaders from diverse traditions. (See my website and books on Reiki.)

So I have embraced **YOGA in many of HER manifestations** for decades.

The **Min Zin** is a Burmese art and system. I learned elements of it directly from the Grandmaster in this country and the West, the top world authority in fact, **Dr. Maung Gyi**.

Min Zin is a special system which translates as something like **“Royal-High System of Spiritual Energy Healing.”** From my background and experience, it looks like a unique Burmese blend of Yoga, meditation, and Qigong, coming from all of the cultures around Burma—India, Tibet, and China being the big ones—as well as native Burmese methods and cultural concepts, all blended beautifully into a unique system preserved by Dr. Maung Gyi and his famous father, from their studies with literally hundreds of masters in Burma and surrounding nations.

Dr. Gyi’s father held a very important position in the Burmese government prior to WWII and the destruction of this great ancient nation. **U Ba Than Gyi**, Dr. Gyi’s father, was in fact the **Minister of Sports in the Burmese Department of Education**, and charged with the task of categorizing all of the martial and yogic lineages in Burma at the time so that they might be preserved as cultural treasures!

He was also himself a great martial arts Grandmaster and spiritual and Yoga teacher, the disciple of many great teachers. So he not only categorized them, he gained admittance into many previously closed lineages in order to preserve them.

Dr. Maung Gyi then inherited all this via training since birth, including with other top experts from around the world whom his famous and powerful father knew.

This also includes Dr. Gyi’s studies with teachers like **H.H. the Dalai Lama**, from his capacity as His Holiness’s Chief Security Consultant for his North American tours for many years.

Some of these methods are also contained in the **Shaolin Butterfly Min Zin • Meditation • Yoga System**, such as the rare and powerful **“Protective Circle Breath,”** a special inner form of Nei Gong breathing and visualization that His Holiness shared with Dr. Gyi and other members of his retinue so that they would be able to deflect outer negative energy rather than receive it!

A very unique, simple but powerful method—sort of like the energetic/spiritual equivalent of T’ai Chi: redirecting negative energy, in this case all esoterically, energetically, and spiritually.

So over the years, as this system grew naturally out of my studies, I began organizing it into a coherent structure, which led to—**voilà!—the Shaolin Butterfly Min Zin • Meditation • Yoga System.**

Elements of this system are contained within both the **Butterfly Reiki System**—specifically under the guidance of Dr. Maung Gyi—and the **Shaolin Butterfly Qigong System**. The entirety of these methods is contained in this system.

When I work with people or groups looking for meditative and healing-arts-type instruction, this is where I draw much of my material from.

So enjoy the new symbol! Stay tuned here, at the website, and on the YouTube channel for more on this great system and all of the Shaolin Butterfly arts and news.

Have a blessed day.
